Basically
David was born into motorcycle racing. His father, also David,
was a successful racer in the 1970's and is still involved in
the sport being an active member of The Scottish Auto Cycle
Union and The Melville Motor Cycle Club. He is Clerk of
the Course and Safety Officer at the East Fortune Circuit.
David's
motorcycling career started at the age of four when he had a
50cc auto child's bike and by seven years, he had moved on to an
80cc gears bike. He started mini-moto racing at the age of 11
years and within two years had won Scottish and UK series
rounds.
He started
motorcycle road racing two years ago at East Fortune on an
Aprilia 125cc and in his first year of racing won the Scottish
Aprilia Series at Knockhill and the Melville Club Championships
at East Fortune.
At 15
years, he retained both titles and contested some Aprilia
Superteen UK nationals at Outton Park, Cadwell Park, Silverstone,
Brands Hatch and Pembury. He won the final UK round outright
beating the series leader.
This year,
David has moved up to Supersport 400cc with a Yamaha sponsored
by Double-M Oilfield Services. He is competing in the UK MRO
series and has already enjoyed a podium finish at Darlington.
Not to be
outdone, David's sister Libby (18) has started her own racing
career on an Aprilia 125. She races at Knockhill and East
Fortune and is Scotland's only female solo motorcycle racer this
year.
